A new musical charting the start of Elvis Presley's career gets its world premiere in Wirral this month.
'Elvis: The Sun Sessions' follows the story of a young truck driver who went into Sun Records' studio to record two songs for his mum.
But, as the history books would tell, this was no one-off trip for 15 minutes of fame. Because, seeing the young boy's talent, the studio's owner, Sam Phillips, recruits guitarist Scotty Moore and bass player Bill Black to form a backing band.
The rest, as fans will know, is history . . . the young trucker went on to earn his place in music royalty as the 'King of Rock and Roll'. His appeal is still massive today.
The show features some of his biggest hits, including 'Good Rockin' Tonight' and 'That's Alright Mama'.
A 20-strong cast, featuring Tony Caine as Elvis and members of the Wirral-based Graceland Players, are lined up to entertain when the curtain goes up at the premiere in Heswall Hall, Telegraph Road, Heswall, on Saturday, January 17.
The show was written by Moreton-based writer/producer and Elvis fan, Colin McCourt, who has high hopes for the show's future. He is sure Elvis will be back for more than one night only with this production.
Colin, who produced and enjoyed massive success with 'The Devil Rides Out', 'Valley of the Dolls' and 'Love, Dreams and Rainbows,' told the Globe: "It's a show I'm very proud of and want to keep doing it. The cast has put a lot of work in to this and, if you're a fan of Elvis, this is definitely one not to missed."
'Elvis: The Sun Sessions' can be seen at Heswall Hall for one night only on Saturday, January 17. Tickets are available from Lingham's bookshop, Heswall, or at the door on the night.
