Youth centre hailed a 'huge success'

A NEW youth centre in Castlefields is proving to be a huge success.

Castlefields Youth Centre is used by youngsters aged 13 and 19 who regularly take part in a number of activities relating to arts, sports, health, citizenship and community participation.

Main sessions, which run on Monday and Friday evenings, attract around 120 people.

Afternoon and after school sessions are also run on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the converted basement, built exclusively for young people, with funding from Halton Borough Council.

The teams also take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's award scheme, which involves setting up tents, building campfires and planning journeys across the countryside. The team also have to complete training with one of the emergency services and are assessed in a leisure activity.

Weekend trips and activities are also run from the centre and the young people are currently working on their own magazine to be published some time next year.

For more information on activities taking place call Sian Griffiths on 01928 589970 or pop into Castlefields Community Centre.
