Cinema - Stuck on You (12A)

The name of the Farrelly Brothers has become synonymous with gross-out comedies like There's Something About Mary, Me, Myself and Irene and Dumb and Dumber.

So when I heard that the double act had made a film about conjoined twins I had a twinge of doubt about their motives.

I was wrong to doubt them.

Their new film, Stuck on You, is an entertaining romp that contains two cracking performances from Matt Damon, who plays Bob, and Gregg Kinnear, his brother, Walt.

Walt has aspirations to be a serious actor while Bob is happy flipping a burger in his own small town restaurant.

For years Walt has done an annual 'one-man' show. He oozes confidence and has a way with women that would put James Bond to shame.

But Bob (who has to accompany his brother on stage disguised as various props) suffers from panic attacks and harbours a secret shame about their condition.

Walt decides to go to Hollywood to pursue his dream and because Bob doesn't want to hold his brother back he agrees to go and help him find fame.

The two get a role in cop show with a washed-up Cher, who hires them in a bid to make the show fail so she can get out of her crappy contract.

However the two become an overnight success but the pressures of fame begin to drive the brothers apart, in more ways than one.

This is a funny film. It does not have the belly laughs of Me, Myself and Irene but you care for the characters and hope everything turns out well for them.

The Farrelly Brothers manage to take on a serious subject and inject it with humour without patronising anybody or resorting to a sickly sweet ending.

7/10 Double the fun!
