Alex's FA Cuo slip isn't a financial disaster

DISAPPOINTED Alex boss Dario Gradi says the club are unlikely to suffer any financial crisis despite crashing out of the FA Cup.

Last Saturday's 1-0 defeat to non-league Telford was by far the biggest disappointment of what has been a fabulous season so far.

And although they won't be hurt in the pocket, Gradi says everybody is hurting from the result and will learn from it.

"I don't think it will damage us financially but we've got a board meeting this week so I'll tell you then," he explained.

"It would have been extra money that we haven't budgeted for.

"A couple of years ago we must have made around £750,000 for that cup run but you can't expect that every year although this was a good chance to progress.

"It was a significant result and one we won't forget.

"That's football and you have to accept the knockbacks as well as the praise.

"I always look at the performance and although it wasn't good it wasn't poor.

"We made enough chances to win the game.

"I haven't been in that situation before, seeing us have so many chances and not winning the game.

"When we lost at Northwich all those years ago, we weren't that good to dominate a game."

Gradi again defended young midfielder Michael Higdon after his performance on Saturday drew some criticism from the supporters.

"The last time we went out of the cup we had no strikers," he continued.

"We had them this time and the back four were good enough.

"You can say what you like about Michael Higdon but he looked dangerous against Telford and was getting into the box better than any of our other central midfielders.

"He's got a good record of scoring goals and we certainly didn't lose because of him.

"We had the ball and were in control of the game.

"We did have some bad luck as well but we didn't play well enough on the day to overcome that.

"We'll just get on with it but like I said, we won't forget it and we'll see what we can learn from it .

"We don't usually suffer hangovers from defeats."
