Rylands recover from brink of defeat

Rylands 19

Langworthy 13

RYLANDS suffered a New Year hangover but still emerged victorious against a determined Langworthy outfit in North West Counties Amateur Rugby League Division One.

The Gorsey Lane boys were 12-0 down early on but a kick by Peter Leonard found winger Neil Evans for a try.

In the second half James Evans beat two defenders on his way to the line and Leonard's extras levelled the game.

The teams exchanged drop goals and then with only four minutes to go Andy Smith went on a barnstorming run. He was superbly backed up by Alan Brinksman, Leonard and finally Ian Ward, who went over for the match-winning try.

Rylands entertain Haresfinch in the North West Counties Cup second round on Saturday, kick-off 1.30pm.

Farnworth A 22

Rylands A 12

MUCH changed Rylands A gave an excellent performance in Division Six with young debut player Jason Murray scoring two tries that were converted by Gahgan.

Best for Rylands were Thurston, Anthony Braide, Andy Penny and Murray.
