Another notch to staggering record

Bank Quay Bulls 42

Blackpool Scorpions 4

BANK Quay Bulls have started 2004 as they finished 2003 - in demolition mode!

Bulls' winning North West Counties Amateur Rugby League run has moved into a third year and they never looked like giving up their staggering record on Saturday despite missing seven regulars.

Damien Fishwick opened the scoring for the Division Two leaders after good work from Jimmy Astbury and Danny Woodwood.

The Bulls scored another two tries through Lee Smith and Dave Hughes before Blackpool had even touched the ball in the game.

Dale Catterrall then made a good break and passed to supporting Smith who scored and showed why he has been picked for Lancashire.

Blackpool had a spell with the ball after some sloppy penalties which resulted in them scoring.

Smith and Ste Caley combined to put Alan Clare over the whitewash to make the half-time score 30-4.

Stan Phizacklea and Neil Smith put winger Dave Hughes in for a try.

Then Smith again provided Hughes the chance to score his first hat-trick for the club which he completed by running 50 metres and rounding the full back.

Fishwick converted all seven goals and was awarded the man of the match award, closely followed by Smith, Clare and Astbury.

Bulls are away to Leigh Harriers on Saturday but the second team will be at home, kick-off 2pm.
