Dispute amicably resolved

WARRINGTON Anglers' Association's rivers seem to have provided the best action this week.

Joe Myers has reported taking a cracking catch of 27 chub from the association's stretch of the Ribble at Hurst Green.

He used a feeder filled with bread to attract the fish to the feed and crust on the hook to take chub between 1lbs and 3lbs.

The tiny River Dane has produced some big chub to 5lbs with the successful method being bread flake fished down the edge.

Chub usually average between 1lbs to 3lbs but this pocket-sized river is stuffed with natural food so anything is possible.

Reports are rare from the River Gowy but after a few good flushes it was in prime condition for Ian Holdsworth on Friday.

He fished a small stick float and loose-fed caster and red maggot immediately downstream of the A56 road bridge to catch eight roach to 1lb, five perch and a nice chub.

He moved downstream below the sluice just before dark and changed tactics to free-lined bread and reeled in three chub averaging 2lbs.

The weights in the Mersey Match on Sunday were low due to the river level rising and sluices being used to run off the resulting excess water.

However, Steve Leyland won on peg 10 with 1lb 8ozs 14drms of small roach on the feeder, just beating his dad Bob on the next peg by 14drammes.

One angler fishing on the opposite side of the river caught a pike which was weighed at 16lbs.

The River Dee has been flooded but reports have indicated that it was dropping fast as the Guardian went to press with lots of fish rising.

Conditions should be ideal tomorrow, Friday, and this in form river is well worth a visit.

Good news regarding the River Trent at Clay Mills - our dispute with the owners has been amicably resolved and members can now fish the venue.
