YOUNG pupils will be able to develop their IT skills, thanks to a big hearted company.
Kawneer has donated 12 computers to Victoria Road Primary School in Runcorn.
Headteacher Ann Burnett, said: "I was delighted to receive such a generous donation. Information and technology plays a critical role in the primary school curriculum."
Primary schools need to have one computer for every eight pupils to meet Government criteria. The school didn't have the funds to replace their existing old software.
Mrs Burnett, explained: "Although the Government has put a lot of money into hardware, it does not provide the means to maintain or replace it, nor does it fund running costs.
"We are just so grateful to Kawneer because it means that we do not have to worry about finding the money to replace the computers."
Printers that are breaking down can now be replaced with school funds, she said, and new inks purchased.
Kawneer was completing an IT upgrading programme at its Astmoor site when they heard of the school's plight.
The company donated 12 Pentium 3 computers, all stripped down to the bare hard drives. Curriculum based software will be installed in the school.
Beryl Rotheram, of Kawneer, said: "Kawneer understands the importance of providing children with the skills they will need to be successful in an increasingly technologically led society."
