Art group's grand gesture

TALENTED market traders have raised almost £1,000 for cancer patients - from their painting skills.

Widnes Market Traders Art Group held an art exhibition at the Queens Hall and donated some of the proceeds of their sales to Halton Haven Hospice.

Brian Halliwell, hospice fundraising manager, said: "We're delighted that they chose us. Widnes market has given us excellent support. The traders have been absolutely brilliant."

Extra money was raised for the haven from a raffle and merchandise sales on the opening night of the exhibition in October.

The traders paint every Tuesday, on their day off.
