Halton FH U11s 36
Widnes Moorfield U11s 6
THIS was a hard fought derby, which was well balanced until half time.
Both teams threw the ball about well and were equally eager to tackle.
Halton FH scored first with two unconverted tries.
Moorfield came back to within two points as Johan Curzon benefited from good distribution by Tom Mellor.
The home team managed to sneak in a try just before half time to stretch the lead to 14-6.
The second half started tight until a more organised attacking force took command and in the end ran away with the game.
Awards went to joint man of the match Wesley Gleave and Johan Curzon, top tackler Jack Williams, coach's award Liam Loftus and Joel Smith.
Shaw Rhinos U11s 44
Widnes Moorfield U11s 36
A CLOSE match in which two new teams acquitted themselves well.
Powerful drives from Daniel Ineson and Jack Williams were complimented by great distribution from Tom Mellor, Jake Smith and Adam Condron.
This put Moorfield near the line and Ross Haydock crashed over for the first converted try. Shaw came back but were kept at bay as Josh Mellor and Joel Smith cleaned up any defensive errors.
Eventually Shaw broke the line and scored out wide.
Moorfield bounced back with a near miss from Jake Smith then a try and goal from Wesley Gleave to take the lead.
A lapse in concentration led to two unanswered tries for the home team and from then on it was catch up rugby.
Jack Williams scored another for Moorfield but Shaw were allowed too much freedom and scored again to put them into a 20-16 lead at half time.
Right from the kick off Shaw scored and converted.
Moorfield tried to claw their way back into it and Joel Smith almost scored.
The ball was thrown out wide and Johan found solid ground scoring in the corner.
Shaw responded well with another six pointer but Moorfield refused to lie down and the backs took up the challenge with the ever-improving Adam Condron jinking and dodging past four defenders to score and convert.
The home team's answer was another score and the match finished off with two teams trading tries. Further scores for Moorfield came from Ross and Johan.
Awards went to man of the match as chosen by the opposition Ross Haydock, coach's man of the match Tom Mellor; top tackler Jack Williams and coach's award went to Jack Williams.
