New Year honours for four special people

IT was a special festive season for four people in the Northwich area, who received awards in the New Year's Honours List.

Hilda Wilson, who retired as headteacher at Charles Darwin Primary School last year, received an OBE for services to education.

Hilda, who used to live in Hartford, has now moved to Hartford, in Connecticut, USA

Dilwyn Rogers, of Grange Avenue, in Cuddington, received an MBE for services to young people.

Dilwyn has been running South Wirral High School's Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme for 25 years.

Although he retired from teaching science last year he still runs the scheme and helps out with administration.

Helen Carey, from Whitley, received an OBE for services to the National Federation of Women's Institutes and to the environment.

Helen, who is the incoming president of Whitley WI, has been national chairman of the WI and also appeared in the smash movie hit Calendar Girls.

Cheshire's Chief Constable, Peter Fahy has received the Queen's Police Medal.

Chief Constable Fahy took over the reins from Nigel Burgess when he retired in December 2002.

He began his career in 1981 with the Hertfordshire Constabulary before joining the West Midlands Police and held command positions in Coventry, Smethwick and Solihull.

He joined Surrey Police in 1997 as Assistant Chief Constable, before his promotion to Deputy Chief Constable.
