Knifeman steals cash in raid on off-licence

DETECTIVES are hunting a knifeman who threatened a woman in an off-licence before escaping with money from the till.

The raid occurred at 4.50pm, on New Year's Day, at the Bargain Booze store, in Mersey Street. The man threatened the shop assistant with a four-inch blade and demanded money before running towards Hale Street.

The off-licence has offered a £5,000 reward for anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man.

The raider is white, in his late 20s, 5ft 5in tall, of slim build, with a pale complexion. He spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a three quarter length jacket, a black balaclava, blue Adidas tracksuit bottoms, white trainers and white gloves.

Anyone with information should call PC Ian Allen or DC John Snee on 01244 613867. Alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
