Trio seek sponsors for special project

THREE St Helens women are appealing to local businesses to help sponsor their placements on a ten-week trek to the forests of Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

Eighteen-year-old Lucie Mawdsley, Kate Jones and Jamie Derbyshire, all residents of Arena Housing Association's Ravenhead Foyer in St Helens are hoping to raise £700 to pay for their places and buy essential kit for whilst they are out there.

So far, Lucie and Kate have raised £100 each from The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent fund and Lucie has raised an additional £169 after completing a sponsored walk from Liverpool to Manchester.

Variety

Run by Raleigh International, the programme will give them the chance to experience life in native communities, undertake a variety of community and environmental projects and take part in adventure treks through national parks and active volcano ranges.

The ten-week programme is composed of projects, which, apart from the expeditions, include the chance to work with other young people on local initiatives in neighbouring Nicaragua.

The Central American country is the second poorest nation in the Western hemisphere.

l Potential sponsors should contact Ravenhead Foyer on 01744 20597.
