G'day! Pub wins role in star soap

A COUPLE of ex-pats, whose antipodean adventure began more than 23 years ago, are about to feature in the storyline of Australia's most famous soap since Prisoner Cell Block H.

Mal and Aileen Leather, who are both 46 and originally from Parr are the proud owners of The Oak Tree Tavern in Victoria, which is about to make an appearance in two episodes of Neighbours, yet to be shown on British television.

Aileen's mum Agnes is understandably proud of how far they have come since they have been down under with their two daughters Joanne and Sara.

She said that Malcolm, who used to work at an office furnishings store and Aileen, who worked at the shoe factory on Jackson Street, moved with virtually nothing to their name.

When they bought the Oak Tree Tavern it was a virtual shell, but Mal's affinity with a hammer and nails transformed the Tavern into a respected restaurant, which has featured in their local newspapers.

"I just want people to know how well they have done for themselves," she said.
