Discussions over hall move

A TASK force, investigating the future of Barnton Memorial Hall, has applied for outline planning permission to site a new building at Barnton Football Club.

The decision will be taken at the borough council's planning meeting on January 13.

Parish Councillor John Turnbull, leader of the project, said discussions were well on with the football club at Townfield Lane.

And he appealed to the parish council for its full support in letting the task force make a number of quick decisions, which were needed if permission was granted.

Mr Turnbull said: "There will be a series of decisions we have to face and we need to be sure we have put the right agreements in place.

"It is important to understand the obligations we have to meet."

Meanwhile the land on the present Lydyett Lane site has been put up for sale but at this stage does not necessarily mean the present hall will be demolished.

Plans are for the new hall to be sited on five acres of land, 20 metres from houses in Townfield Lane and 10 metres away from the goalposts on the football field.

Parish Clr Olive Golding said: "As long as the football club have given it great consideration."

The parish council gave unanimous support for the task force to make any necessary decisions.
