Why deprive people of a valued facility?

WITH reference to the article on the front of the Star newspaper about the Jarvis Bar, people in Billinge are about to lose a great local pub in the village and also the bowling green is also going to be lost to yet another housing development.

We have also lost the best eating house because Mrs Jarvis who ran the restaurant next door was forced to close down, after redecoration and refurbishment, I might add.

We have no facilities in Billinge other than pubs and two bowling greens, (one at the Jarvis Bar and one at St Mary's club) which hardly covers the amount of people living in Billinge as it is. Is it right to deprive local people of the village, their right to the few facilities.

I find it wrong that someone can buy a piece of land and build what he wants... and at the expense of local people who are looking for local entertainment, not having to drive out of the village, and therefore leaving the car at home.

There is more than enough housing in Billinge as it is, and the traffic through Main Street is already horrendous.

I say no more housing and no more traffic to our already congested village.

Mrs S Parr, Windsor Road, Billinge.
