Spring View 12 Clock Face Miners 17
CLOCK Face ran out eventual winners against a spirited Spring View side, in a game they never really managed to take full control of.
Clock got off to a good start with a try after just five minutes, when a long kick down field by Steve Ludden was missed by the Spring View full back, allowing centre Wayne Prescott to pick up and score in the corner.
Clock's next try was scored in similar fashion, when after winning a scrum, Steve Molyneux put in a kick to the corner, which saw Kalan Warburton win the race to the ball to score.
A penalty by Karl Walker increased Clock's lead still further, before a converted try by Spring View pulled them back into the game, and to make the score 10-6 at half-time.
After the break the Wiganers got off to a brisk start, putting the Clock defence under a lot of pressure, but it held firm, thanks mainly to Ludden, Molyneux, Chisnall and Grimes.
After withstanding this early pressure Clock went onto the attack, and were rewarded with a try when Mark Costello powered his way over the line to score, Walker adding on the extras.
Spring View continued to compete, but a drop goal 10 minutes from the end by Dave Hamilton seemed to have set the seal on the game for Clock.
However, within minutes the Wiganers hit back with a converted try, to set up a nail-biting finish but Clock managed to hold onto for a hard-earned win.
The Kwik Seal man of the match for Clock went to Steve Molyneux, with Steve Hayes, Mike Smith and Dave Hamilton also playing well.
