A MUGGER escaped down an alleyway after he was chased by two people in a car.

The witnesses followed the offender after they saw him snatch a handbag off a 75- year-old woman in Manor Park South.

They chased the man into a side street but lost him when he disappeared down an alleyway leading to Thorneyholme Drive.

Detectives believe he then may have run off towards Shaw Heath.

The pensioner had been returning from a shopping trip in Knutsford on Monday when the man came up behind her and snatched her handbag.

The woman was not injured in the incident which happened at the corner of Mobberley Road and Manor Park South.

Her bag and all its contents were later found untouched in the alleyway.

It is the 11th mugging in Knutsford over the past few months.

But it is five weeks since the last incident when a 72-year-old woman's bag was snatched as she walked in an alleyway near Ashworth Park.

"We want to assure the public that we have been working on this matter over the past five weeks," said DS Andy Moss.

"The police are pursuing this from every possible angle."

The mugger was slim, in his late 20s or early 30s, 5ft10, with a pale complexion and dark hair. He was wearing a black woolly hat, blue jacket, blue jeans and light trainers.
