A YOUNG teacher is frightened of walking back to her car after getting off the train at Knutsford st

Sue Primrose, of Fir Tree Avenue, said parking spaces nearest to the ticket office were no longer available for rail passengers to use.

Instead the English teacher, who works at a school in Manchester, has been forced park her car near King Street.

"I don't feel safe walking to my car in the dark every night after work," she said.

"I just think I should be entitled to park nearer to the office because I use the station every day."

It is believed that a company, which recently moved into offices in Canute Court next to the station, has taken the spaces for their staff.

"They moved into the old Eurocamp offices about mid November and on the first day put out cones on the first 20 spaces," said Miss Primrose on Monday.

"They have now painted on the spaces nearest to the station to say they are to be used by the company.

"I feel they should use the same spaces as Eurocamp and leave the rest for rail users."

In their recent report the Mid Cheshire Rail Users Association also noted the loss of parking spaces near the booking office.

They said at least half the spots had always been used by train passengers. The group is now discussing the problem with North Western Trains, which leases the land off Railtrack.

Yesterday a spokesman for North Western Trains said they were investigating the matter.

"We know there is a problem and we are looking into the abuse of the car parking spaces," he said.

It is also believed that too many cars at the station could stop a fire engine reaching the ticket office in an emergency.
