If the argument they have put forward is the best reason they can think of for closing it, then I think the whole thing should be dropped and the lane reopened. Marbury Lane is a vital link between Northwich and the outlying villages on this side of town. To close this link because of a fatal accident is totally wrong. If this is going to be the council's attitude we could end up with half of our roads needing to be closed. As for the condition of the lane, if this astronomical figure they are quoting is to be believed, why has the land been allowed to deteriorate to such a degree before repairs have been carried out? If they consider the lane to be unsafe, then make it safe, but this is a country lane we are talking about here, not a by-pass and it should be maintained as just that. read more
