REWARD TO NET PUB RAIDERS

A REWARD is being offered to try and catch burglars who raided a Widnes pub.

Intruders broke into the Mersey View in Halebank by smashing a back window.

Once inside, they raided gaming machines and stole a quantity of money from the living quarters.

They escaped with a substantial amount of cash. The exact figure has not been disclosed.

Licensee Steven Kirkbride is now offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the culprits.

Widnes CID is appealing for witnesses.

The burglary happened between 12.30pm-2.20pm on Wednesday, April 21. The pub is closed during the day.

Det Con Andy Garner said: "The licensee had just popped out. There would have been a number of people in the area at the time. Many workers from the nearby industrial estate go to the chip shop across the road from the pub. Some may have even sat on the pub benches eating their lunch.

"We are anxious to talk to anyone who may have seen something."

Anyone with information can contact Det Con Garner or Det Con Birch on 01244 613733.
