LYMM ANGLING CLUB LATEST

SOME glorious weather over the Bank Holiday period has done a lot to raise the spirits, not least to Lymm Angling Club members whose sport has improved once again.

For the work party attendees, Spring Pool continues to fish very well with plenty of silver orfe, rudd and cruciens gracing their landing nets, while nearby Farm Pool ceaselessley provides non-stop action created by the resident stocks of silver fish.

Founders Pool has again produced some specimen roach and perch, these along with their smaller cousins, bream, cruciens and carp explain the popularity of this water. Please remember that junior members are not allowed on this water whether accompanied or not.

Whitley Pool is, at last, showing positive signs of waking up from its winter slumbers. Carp can be seen cruising the warmer surface layers of the water, although the water temperature must still be close to freezing on the bottom of the deeper water. The warmer upper layer of water no doubt contributes to the reason why the fish tend to feed very close into the margins, well up the shelf.

On the day ticket waters, which are freely available to members, things are hotting up. As predicted the Old Quay Canal is providing a lot of sport. Chub, perch, silver orfe, skimmers and carp are featuring well, with the carp averaging 6lbs.

Our head bailiff points out that the chub continue to erupt into a feeding frenzy by loose feeding floating casters, the older and blacker the better.

Lymm Dam has produced good carp doubles, using floating bait tactics, although this week's biggest fish came to Neil Fox, whose fish weighed over 19lbs after falling to one of his special boilies.

Grimsditch remains popular due to the continued good fishing provided by the resident bream, rudd and carp. Casters, red maggots, pinkies and bread punch are the baits scoring best.

On the trout scene Lymmvale's rod average remains very good at 4.1. On Bentley Trout Pool, member Malcolm Thomason reported a wholly enjoyable day there last Friday, where he caught four trout all well above 2lbs. Fish activity has been reported as being all over the water.

On Sunday the first leg of the Women's Summer Series is due to take place on the Old Quay canal. The draw is at 10am, with the match fished from 11am until 4pm. If you require any further information on this match, or on the women's section in general, give Sue Jupp a ring on 411774.

Members holding a club trophy are requested to return them as soon as possible by either dropping them off at The Manor Lock (formerly Westies), Jim Shaw's tackle shop or any other appropriate club official. If you have a problem returning one, contact me.

Tickets to the club presentation night are now available. This event will take place at Pierpoint and Bryant Social Club on May 21. Tickets cost just £3.50, which includes the cost of a buffet. To secure your ticket, give me a ring.

I can be contacted on 411774.
