TOWN'S PROMOTION CHANCE

A 5-3 defeat for Abbey Hey at Formby on Monday leaves the promotion door open for Warrington Town Football Club.

Town play their last game of the North Western Trains League Division Two season tomorrow, Saturday, at Maghull while their Manchester rivals play their last game at Darwen.

Both sides can finish on a maximum of 66 points, after Abbey's 3-0 win at Oldham Town on Wednesday, but Town have a superior goal difference and a win at Old Hall Lane should see them finish in second place to champions Fleetwood Freeport.

Should both sides win and their goal difference level out the league have confirmed it would be Town being promoted on the back of having scored more goals.

Town have only lost two league games since October and at last manager Dave Hughes has seen some fine reward for turning the team's fortunes around this season.

At tomorrow's game he will be presented with the manager of the month award for April, a period in which his team won four games, drew two and lost once to Fleetwood in the final of the Second Division Trophy.

Star striker Damien Whitehead will be available again tomorrow following the second week of a trial with Tranmere Rovers. Whitehead scored both goals in Tranmere youth team's 2-1 victory over Carlisle Reserves at the end of last week.
