WHY YOUR VOTE IS SO IMPORTANT

Election Special

OVER the next four years Vale Royal Borough Council will spend more than £100 million - and a simple tick on a ballot paper could decide how that cash is spent.

This is the sentiment of the borough council's chief executive Bill Woods, who is urging Northwich people to turn out in force at the various polling stations in and around the town, tomorrow (Thursday).

Mr Woods, who is also the borough council election returning officer, said: "This is your opportunity to have an impact on the way Vale Royal Borough Council will be run for the next four years.

"It is the last chance to vote for the borough council this century and the way your vote is cast will help to shape our area for the new millennium.

"Your borough councillor decides hundreds of things on your behalf, from getting the bins emptied to deciding what development should happen where.

"And before the next borough elections, the council will have spent more than £100 million - most of which will have come from local people. So your vote does count."

There are contests in 25 of the 28 wards in Vale Royal.

The candidates in Northwich Witton, Northwich Winnington and Seven Oaks and Marston wards have been returned to the council unopposed.

A recent review of the borough has resulted in the number of Wards being reduced from 36 to 28 and the new council will have 57 councillors instead of the present 60.

Details of the election will be published on the borough council's internet site - www.valeroyal.gov.
