NORTHWICH Rowing Club's Matthew Langridge has been picked to represent Great Britain in Germany this weekend.
Matthew, 15, of London Road, will compete in the Junior Single Scull and Junior Double Scull at the Munich International Junior Regatta.
The Hartford High pupil's early season form has been dogged by illness and injury but he believes he's fully fit for the biggest event of his life.
He said: "I've suffered from heavy colds and a few back injuries which stopped me training but I think I'm back up to full fitness.
"It was quite a shock to find out that I'd been chosen for the squad.
"I was quite chuffed that I'd managed to get in.
"It's the biggest regatta I'll have been to and I'm looking forward to it but the competition will be intense and extremely tough," he said.
Matthew will be the youngest member of the squad travelling to Germany but the prospect doesn't daunt him.
He added: "My form during the trials last October was quite good and I managed to win one race and come second in another.
"I only thought I'd get selected as a substitute so to get picked for the full squad at 15 is very pleasing," he said.
Club member Alana Crouchley added: "This has been the culmination of months of hard work and training for Matthew.
"The junior section includes people right up to the age of 18 and so for Matthew to be chosen when he's not even 16 proves he's doing really well," she said.
