MYSTERY OF THE SOAKING WET WITNESS

POLICE have issued a fresh appeal for a witness who may be vital in the hunt for Mrs Webb's murderer.

New evidence has revealed a woman was seen in Sandy Lane, Weaverham, between 5.15pm and 5.45pm on the day of the murder, July 22 last year.

Described as the Soaking Wet witness, she is white, aged between 28 and 32, of slim, muscular build, around 5ft 3ins in height. She had red dyed hair, and was soaking wet from head to foot.

A passing motorist saw that she was in distress, and offered her a lift. She accepted, and directed him to Orford, near Warrington, where she left the car.

If you have any information about this witness, or the murder, ring Northwich CID on 01244 613298.

THE police were hoping to renew their appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch programme. But, due to the recent death of presenter Jill Dando, plans for the series are, at the moment, on hold.
