Typical twaddle...

I SUSPECT Sheila Woodyatt was as astonished as myself to learn of Liberal Democrat Councillor Judith Walker's assertion that in effect she had been chosen as a future Mayor because of her 'cuddly closeness' to the Labour Party. (GUARDIAN, April 23.)

Whilst Sheila may well be cuddly, her (usually misguided!) opposition to our policies has been vociferous and persistant and certainly well documented by the GUARDIAN over many years. Even in the welcoming environment of New Labour, it would be difficult to envisage Sheila as a sympathiser let alone a potential recruit for us.

I am sure your readers will see an alternative but perfectly obvious and totally non-political reason as to why Sheila has emerged for the Mayoral post - namely her enthusiastic and dedicated public service.

I suggest folk ignore Judith Walker's increasingly typical Liberal Democrat twaddle and celebrate with the rest of us the onset of another civic year with Sheila playing her full part in it.
