Dazzling parade on St. George's Day

MORE than 1,000 members of Warrington's Scouts and Guides joined forces on Sunday for the St George's Day Parade.

The Mayor and Mayoress Albert and Jean Clemow joined District Commissioners and District Presidents on the Town Hall steps to salute the parade before it made its way to Warrington Parish Church for a special service.

The marchers made the most of the afternoon's sunny spells, with plenty of rousing accompaniment from Warrington Juvenile Pipe Band and Latchford Silver Band.

The mass was led by the Priest in Charge of Warrington Parish, Reverend Michael Finlay, and Rector of Newchurch, the Reverend Alan Litton.

The parade has been an annual feature of Warrington life since 1919.

Meanwhile, staff at the Abbey National, Centre Park, slipped into dragon-slaying fancy dress to drum up aid for the Kosovan refugees. Their efforts helped send provisions, teddy bears and up to £200 in cash to war-torn Yugoslavia.
