FEET FIRST

OLD SHOES can be put to new uses in Halton as the council launches a shoe recycling scheme which will see old footwear reconditioned and sold on to people in less developed countries.

The idea behind the scheme is to prevent environmental damage caused by the incineration of junked shoes.

Even those that are beyond repair can be salvaged and used to make alternative products.

The collection points are at the following locations:

Runcorn - Asda, market car park in Loch Street and Picow Farm Road household waste site.

Widnes - Asda, Hough Green Road playing fields and Johnsons Lane waste site.
