WIDS KIDS ROUND-UP

Lancashire Cup Final

Widnes u16s 34

West Park u16s 20

A man-of-the-match show from prop-forward Antony Price and 19 points for Michael Webb were the highlights as Widnes entered the record books with a third Lancashire Cup success.

Trailing by 10 points from a converted McIIrow try and penalty goal, the champions came back with a vengeance as Dunne took possession from the kick-off and Webb capitalised with a superb side-stepping score.

As confidence grew, Stubbs followed his own kick through and flicked the ball for Doran to go steaming behind the posts.

A West Park fight back saw Brown go in on an overlap and secure the half-time lead.

This proved short-lived as first Web blasted over then scrum-half Lamb crashed in.

The challenges were finished off by a Baxter try and while McIlrow managed a consolation score, there was absolutely no doubt about the Cup's destination.

Wirral u8s 20

ONCE again the under sevens showed their ability to compete with, and beat, older opposition.

The Wids got off to a dream start when concerted pressure was rewarded with tries for Mom Nelson and Lang.

Wirral then struck back with their opening try.

Anderson soon restored the advantage, when he cut through their defence to bag his first try of the season.

The second-half was a classic game of two quarters.

Wirral raced ahead with three unanswered tries, however, the under sevens, once again, demonstrated their team spirit and desire to win which saw them finish the game strongly.

Mayer, having previously gone close on two occasions, crossed the whitewash to level the scores.

Lang and Williams then both showed strong finishing in steering the team home with the last two tries.

This was an excellent end to a season during which the whole squad have developed into a highly impressive and competitive unit-roll on next season.

Wirral u8s 15

Widnes u8s 35

DESPITE the disappointment of the previous week, Widnes came back strongly to provide a superb display against a much bigger Wirral side.

The win was built around an impressive team effort with Wood, Steven-Davies, Oatley and Harden tireless in defence.

Doolan and Parry continue to develop their game gaining valuable experience for next year.

Strong running from the backs enabled Webb to open the scoring in the corner, Seville to add a try to his growing tally, Kerr to cross for another long distance effort and the outstanding McLindon to deservedly win the Mom award with a further four tries and a strong tackling performance.

A hard won and well-earned victory.
