Orrell St James 46
West Bank 22
THE BANK completed its league programme with a defeat at Orrell.
The sides were evenly matched for an hour but once again a late points burst saw the home side to victory by a flattering margin.
The 15 Bank player who turned up can once again take credit for their efforts.
The Bank started well and took the lead after 15 minutes with a superb solo try from centre Tony Fillingham.
Five minutes later a similar effort from stand-off Steven King converted by winger Mark Higgins added to the lead.
Orrell then came back well and went in front with tries from second-row McGuigan and loose-forward Ellis both converted by scrum-half McHugh.
The Bank regained the lead with a 30-yard try from loose-forward John Buckley that Steven King converted.
In the final minute of the half Orrell winger Fisher crossed for a McHugh converted try to give Orrell a flattering 18-16 interval lead.
Matt White, John Buckley, Tony Fillingham and Richard Miller impressed in the first-half.
Orrell added to their lead early in the second-half with a converted try from McHugh but the Bank kept in touch with a second try from John Buckley who side-stepped two defenders to cross after good approach play from Chris Nuttie and Steven King.
Steven King added the conversion.
The Bank then began to tire and with both substitutes Paul McGrath and John Wilson already on the field Orrell got on top.
Youngsters Richard Miller and David Murphy made try-saving tackles but in the final 15 minutes Orrell added tries from winger Atkinson, centre Longshaw, second-row Clayton and prop Spruce, three of which McHugh converted.
Tony Fillingham was again Bank Mom with Steven King, Danny Hale and John Buckley outstanding.
