CROSFIELDS hold the edge at the top of the Warrington Soccer League Premier Division as the season draws to a close.
Their game at the weekend was postponed but they are top on goal difference to Whiston Cross, with both teams having played the same number of games.
Whiston, after their surprise midweek defeat at Greenalls, bounced back with a vengeance as they outclassed Riverplate 10-2. Tony Holden and Steve Keogh helped themselves to trebles while there was a brace from John Meaney and others from Jed Meaney and Lee Begley.
Division One champions Owens Corning outgunned Holy Cross 7-0 so runners up spot appears to be between Haydock and Vulcan Newton who won. Vulcan's 4-0 win over St. Albans leaves the Saints in the bottom three. Their plight to avoid the drop was not assisted by bottom club Runcorn Albion surprisingly beating East Leigh 4-3.
Fearnhead enjoyed a 3-1 success at Sasib. A Johnny Brennan double and a first touch goal from substitute Sean Caddick did the job.
In a top of Division Two clash, Irlam Catholic Club ousted FC Union Tavern 3-2.
Division Three leaders Crontonians won 8-0 against Burtonwood. Lee Holmes was the star man by notching five with two from David Gannon and one from Ian Hilton making up the scoreline.
Tommy's Clock Face beat St. Benedicts 8-5 with goals from Stephen Andrews, four, Barry Davies, two, Lee Clarke and Sean Hill.
Burtons suit
WARRINGTON Soccer League's reserves' sections have been lit up with some high scoring games
Blackbrook's 5-3 win over leaders Halebank means both teams are likely to be promoted. Kieron Frost, two, Paul Highcock, two, and Philip Broadhead netted for the winners with responses coming from Anton Poaksall, Ian Billington and Neil Pendleton.
Burton brothers Johnny and Carl scored Fearnhead's goals in their 3-2 win over Daten 4th.
Lee Duane, Paul Bennion and Trevor Carter gave Moore a 3-3 draw with Three Crowns.
Moorfield third beat section three leaders Irlam Catholic Club 4-1. Kevin Dowling jnr, Dave Manley, Sean Ellis and Paul Chance goaled with Irlam's Paul McNulty replying.
Grappenhall's Danny Topping and Daz Graham bagged doubles in a 4-1 win at Widnes R&S.
