ROVERS BATTLE ON

Wigan St. Pats 16

Woolston Rovers 10

ROVERS narrowly lost a mud bath battle at Wigan on Tuesday night in a tight National Conference League Premier Division fixture.

A penalty goal and try from Winston Sarsfield put the home side 6-0 ahead but Rovers got back into the game on the hour when scrum half Damian Shaw raced 40 yards to score.

St. Pats scored their second try against the run of play through full back Damian Charnock. Shaun Boylan converted.

St. Pats made the game safe three minutes from time when Charnock crossed for his second try, but Rovers completed the scoring in the last minute when Smith scored between the posts. Steve Martin goaled.

Best for Rovers were prop forward Steve Wood, centre Nigel Quarmby and stand off Andy Hill.

Next Thursday, Rovers are at home to Thornhill. Kick off is 7.45pm at Bennett Rec.

Rovers: Steve Martin, Mike Carter, Nigel Quarmby, Peter Livett, Mark Cosgrove, Andy Hill, Damian Shaw, Steve Wood, Mike Briggs, Paul Foster, Tim Iddon, Karl Taylor, Graham Smith. Subs: Mark Shephard, Nick Glenn.
