RUGBY CLUB LOSES OUT

RUGBY club leaders have lost out in their bid to move to a new home in Congleton.

The town's rugby club wanted to create three pitches with a clubhouse and parking on farmland off Moss Road.

However the scheme was turned down by borough councillors because of poor access to the site and the impact of the proposals on an adjoining area of biological importance.

At the same meeting Congleton Cricket, Hockey and Bowling Club was given the go-ahead for major improvements at its Booth Street ground.

The scheme involves demolishing the wooden pavilion and the part of the main building which houses a kitchen, function room and changing rooms.

These would be replaced by an extension housing a function room, kitchen, tea room, toilets and changing rooms.

The scheme also includes the creation of an artificial cricket wicket
