A WINSFORD business is set for further expansion after winning the UK licence to use a unique anti-bacterial ingredient.

Contour Showers announced last week that it has been awarded sole rights to use the Maxguard AB agent in its shower trays, which will set new standards in personal hygiene.

The licence is the ideal 40th anniversary celebration for the company, which is one of the top three UK manufacturers of shower trays, doors and enclosures, specialising in shower facilities for the less able.

Some of the 50-strong workforce are already working overtime to meet an expected surge in demand for the product.

Owner and managing director Peter Hickson said that the development was the most exciting event in the company's history.

He said: "This new range has been well received. Even before the official announcement, we have had lots of enquiries.

"Our workforce has gone up from 37 to 52 in the last year, providing more jobs for local people.

"We are responding to growing consumer awareness of the risks of germs and bacteria.

"Demand for anti-bacterial protection has been growing in Japan and the United States. Now people in Europe and the UK are demanding better hygiene.

"Most of our business is in speciality showers for the less able and elderly. Our anti-bacterial protection is particularly ideal for institutional use, where many people use the same facility."
