THIEVES have left Over Hall Primary School without a pole for its May fair.
It was vandalised when burglars raided the caretaker's shed recently. Now a plea for help has gone out to Winsford residents who may be able to find a replacement maypole.
Teacher Sally Ross said: "We decided to have a May fair instead of a summer fair but a few weeks ago, somebody broke into the caretaker's yard and vandalised the pole. It was actually an old netball post but it was metal and made a perfect maypole. It's been so badly damaged we can't use it for the fair.
"We are hoping that perhaps a builder could come to the rescue. We need a pole about 8ft tall. One length of scaffolding would be sufficient. If anyone could help us we would be very grateful."
Anyone who can help in time for the fair on May 22, can ring the school on 01606 553692 or Guardian reporter Mhari Kelly on 01606 862086.
