A DIY DISASTER? GET A HANDYMAN ABOUT THE HOUSE

FORGET Handy Andy, there's a new hero in town for all the DIY dunces out there.

A building firm from Hartford has launched a service which promises salvation if you don't know a spanner from a screwdriver.

Bits and Bobs Maintenance will send a handyman round to do all those jobs which are easy to the experts - but baffling to everyone else.

"I see Bits and Bobs customers as people who live alone, haven't got relatives or friends to help with those little DIY jobs or professionals who don't have the time or tools," said Linda Butterworth, who came up with the idea.

"Although this is not our normal sort of work, I have discovered there is a real need for the professional handyman who can sort out those niggling little jobs that we never get round to," she added.

"These days people move frequently in their jobs and often will live alone. Whether male or female, time will be at a premium and having someone to deal with those little jobs will be a boon."

Linda is the managing director of Build-It, which normally deals with the kind of jobs beyond even the most dedicated DIYer.

Despite that, staff from Bits and Bobs will take care of all those little jobs, like putting up a curtain rail, changing a lock or fixing a squeaky floorboard - anywhere in Mid Cheshire.

"You need someone who knows what they're doing and who can carry out the repair with little fuss," said Linda, whose firm is a member of the Federation of Master Builders.

"In that instance we would come into our own. We are a respected building company which uses professional workmen."

Bits and Bobs can be contacted on 01606 79560.
