We share the agony of the Kosovon refugees

MEP Brian Simpson tells the story of the dreadful situation in Kosovo. We in Britain share the agony of the people there.

The EU has not done very well there. It has taken American leadership, some of it of questionable quality, to get anything done at all.

We can blame the French, the Italians and the Greeks for expressing doubts about the Western line - though they have followed the agreed line. Britain's position has been the correct but our impact on our EU partners is all the time weakened by our "semi-detached" view of Europe, in it but giving the impression of not wanting to be.

We should commit ourselves properly to Europe including adopting the new Euro currency and then our partners will pay full attention to the leadership we are capable of giving on wider matters.
