A MIDDLE-AGED man who ticked off a drunken youth over his unruly behaviour was struck on the head with a bottle, a court was told this week.
Lee Furnival, 22, of Poplar Close, Runcorn was jailed for 18 months after admitting wounding, burglary, theft and criminal damage at Warrington Crown Court.
Owen Edwards, prosecuting, said Furnival and two other youths went on a crime spree in Runcorn.
Furnival was seen to smash a kitchen window by punching it and later stole wine and lager worth £42.12 from an off-licence.
Stephen Cowan, a middle-aged man suffering from ill health was in a chip shop with his wife when Furnival and his friends arrived.
Mr Cowan told Furnival he shouldn't drink if he couldn't hold his liquor. As he walked passed him, he called him a "silly boy" and then felt a blow on the back of his head. He turned to see he had been struck with a bottle.
He went back in the chip shop but Furnival threw the bottle through the window.
Later Furnival broke into a flat by kicking the door open.
Alan Simms, defending, said his client had no excuses. He had simply taken part in a day of drunken, criminal behaviour.
