A WOMAN is in intensive care following an early morning crash on a Runcorn expressway on Monday.
Janet Simm, of Greenway Road, was seriously injured when her Citroen, which was heading towards the Clifton Interchange, was in collision with both a Ford Transit van and a Vauxhall Cavalier travelling in the opposite direction outside the Rock Savage Power plant shortly before 7am.
it appears that her car crossed the unguarded central reservation immediately before the accident.
The drivers of the other vehicles, men from Elton and Chester, were not seriously injured. The transit driver was released from hospital after a check-up and the other man did not require treatment.
Ms Simm was taken to Warrington Hospital, where she is in intensive care.
Police had to close the road for several hours as a result of the accident, which led to tailbacks and delays all through the road system.
Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Halton Traffic Police on 01244 613 766.
