WINSFORD Women's Institute has set itself a mammoth task to complete for the millennium.
Members have started an enormous embroidery of Winsford, 3ft by 4ft, which they plan to present to the town council.
But they need all the help they can get from fellow craftsmen to finish it on time.
"At the moment we have about six or seven people working on it but we would love more people," said June Sloan, Winsford WI member.
"It was originally Shirley Oldroyd who came up with the idea. She has been the driving force behind the whole project.
"Shirley embroided the map of Winsford on a piece of cloth. Now we are adding different things to it like footballers, golfers, fishermen and ducks.
"The footballers and golfers are to be placed near Knights Grange on the map.
"We are also going to have all the crests of the schools on it."
June explained: "It's still very much in the piecing together stage but our aim is to get it finished as near as possible to January.
"If we get some more embroiders we might be able to finish it on time.
"Also, because we have looked at it so much it would be good if we had some fresh ideas."
An open meeting is being held in Meadow Bank Lodge, Grange Lane, on Monday, April 26, at 8pm. Embroiders who would like to be associated with the project are welcome to attend.
For further information or to offer help, the president of Winsford WI can be contacted on 01606 554630.
