Keep out of mischief!

POLICE in Winsford have been keeping the town's schoolchildren out of trouble during the Easter holidays.

A new campaign, entitled 'Don't Be A Nuisance', is geared towards cracking down on the type of behaviour which can give youngsters a bad reputation.

Representatives from the force have visited playgroups to discuss common offences like hoax calls and anti-social behaviour.

As well as reducing juvenile mischief, the meetings are also hoping to break down some of the barriers between police and the youngsters.

The playgroups have been part of the Community Safety Partnership and run in conjunction with WINCAP, Mid Cheshire TEC and Winsford Town Council.

Cartoon characters Wallace and Grommit have been used as part of a poster campaign to appeal to the children.

Winsford town bobby Peter Gaskell said: "There is a lot of work between the police and local authorities to raise awareness of how kids can give the wrong impression by being a nuisance.

"They have also been enlightened on how misuse of the 999 call can use up resources when police have to go out and attend to false calls.

"After a very good reception in both weeks of the Easter holidays, the initiative is set to continue in the summer."
