AWARDS SAY THANK-YOU

CREWE and Nantwich Borough Council made a point of saying a special thank-you at the launch of a new awards ceremony.

The Leisure Services Community Awards are intended to reward local community groups who bring leisure programmes to the general public and improve the quality of life locally.

Nantwich Civic Hall hosted the launch which was attended by over 300 people, who were praised for their behind-the-scenes work.

Every organisation nominated received a certificate and the winners of the individual Special Acknowledgement Awards were:

Jackie Kelly- Teacher at Springfield School

Barbara Warrington- Seahorse Swimming Club

Chris Walters- Crewe Alex Football in the Community officer

Garvice Upton- Leisure Volunteer

Barbara Jones- 50+ Club, Nantwich Civic Hall

Jack Maybury- Chairman of Crewe and Nantwich Sports Council

Councillor Jayne Wright, chairperson of the Leisure Services Committee, said: "This is the first Community Leisure Awards Evening that we've had and we are delighted about the response.

"It was lovely to see those who are actively involved in the many community organisations enjoying the evening. To see people networking, making new contacts, exchanging and discussing ideas.

"Often people work extremely hard, behind the scenes and contribute a great deal of time and personal commitment, this is a simple way to say the simplest of things, 'thank you,' which can quite often be easily missed but can mean such a lot."
