A 12-YEAR-OLD Middlewich High School pupil, who lost his mum to cancer last year, has swum three miles to raise money for St Luke's Hospice.
James Townley completed the mammoth task at Winsford baths in just three hours after swimming 192 lengths of the pool.
He managed to raise about £200 for the cancer hospice and his dad, David, was very proud of him.
He said: "My wife Margaret died last year on the day James was supposed to be doing a sponsored swim for St Luke's. He still went on and did the two mile swim and I was very proud of him. He raised £1,200.
"This year he decided to swim three miles. It's incredible how he did it because it took a lot of swimming and he said he was bored out of his mind. It was marvellous.
"We didn't raise as much money this year but people are still welcome to make donations to the hospice. It would be great if we could raise more money.
"I think next year we will have to try something a little different. Perhaps James could do a sponsored swim at Lake Windermere?"
To make a donation for James' sponsored swim, David can be contacted on 01606 832924 or donations can be made to St Luke's Hospice direct on 01606 551246.
