NEW security cameras offering 24-hour surveillance have been launched in Middlewich to help crack down on town centre crime.
The video cameras, which have been set up in the Bullring and Southway to monitor and record movements, are part of a £170,000 scheme across Congleton borough to combat crime.
Middlewich's CCTV cameras are linked to a control centre in Alsager, where they will be monitored around the clock.
The cameras have been installed following pressure from residents, who have placed community safety at the top of their agenda.
Council leader Linda Short said that residents and shops would feel the benefit of having the new cameras in the town centre.
The new system has replaced two previous CCTV cameras at Booze Buster in Hightown.
