Party time for pensioners

MORE than 150 pensioners enjoyed a musical treat on Saturday in an outing organised by Middlewich councillors and members of the area's talking newspaper.

The council organised a coach to pick up the over-70s from around the town and take them to the Civic Hall, where they were treated to a hotpot supper and drinks.

Those pensioners who live away from the normal bus routes were picked up in cars by talking newspaper members.

Musical entertainment for the evening was provided by the Winsford Operatic Society, who sang songs from the shows, while two games of bingo also helped to keep the pensioners amused.

The fun-filled evening also featured a raffle, with 25 prizes donated by shopkeepers and publicans in Middlewich.

Town mayor Clr Fred Johnson said: "All the pensioners said it was their best party yet. They really enjoyed themselves."

Catering was provided by Janet Ravenscroft, while the mayor and mayoress, Clr Arnold Kidd and members of the talking newspaper helped out by 'waiting on' during the supper.
