Darnhall school's art for art's sake

THE Tate Gallery could soon be exhibiting art work by Darnhall Primary School pupils!

The famous gallery has requested to see the school's paintings in the style of abstract artist Jackson Pollock.

Within the next couple of weeks, Tate officials will decide whether the pictures will be exhibited.

Headteacher Colin Pritchard is delighted at the news.

He said: "We contacted the Tate Gallery to ask if we could bring the children on a trip to see the work of Jackson Pollock which they are exhibiting at the moment.

"They said it's unusual for younger children to visit the gallery and asked why we had a particular interest in Pollock's work.

"When we explained that the children had been painting in his style, a woman from the gallery asked if we could photograph the children's work and send it to them.

"Once they receive the pictures, they will decide whether our work will be exhibited," he explained.
