I WAS interested to see your recent report about the 'tramp' from Rochdale who visited Northwich on

I met Frank Brierley around 1977 to 1980 when we were both in hospital in Rochdale - Frank had not taken to the road at that time.

He was a most interesting and intelligent man, passionate about archaeology and local history - his spare time on the ward was spent reading or listening to the kids in the children's ward.

I suspect that he has chosen York for his retirement for its Roman connections.

Good luck Frank, a long and happy retirement!
