Town on top!

Rylands 0 Middlewich Town 1

Mid Cheshire League

MIDDLEWICH went to third-placed Rylands full of confidence, and kept in place their attacking strategy from the Warrington game.

Manager Dave Twite couldn't believe what he witnessed over the 90 minutes of play, total domination by Middlewich, which saw Dave Coleman only have one shot to save from the home side.

With a strike force of Fuller, Langley and Miranda, Middlewich played with pace and power and Langley should have scored after five minutes but, saw his shot clip the upright.

From this point on Town flowed forward, with Les Miranda, making his full debut, going close and Ben Fuller bringing an excellent save from the Rylands keeper.

Brian Nicholson, Middlewich's centre half kept Rylands' forward line quiet, with some powerful defending, backed up by Olliver, Ostrowka and Jump.

The midfield trio of Twite, Moss and Evans were supplying Middlewich forwards with enough ammunition, that should have seen Town four goals to the good.

But at the interval Middlewich went in only one up and that came through the tenacious Langley who sprinted clear of the onlooking defenders from a splendid pass from Simon Evans. Langley took the ball and cooly slotted his shot beyond the reach of the keeper.

Middlewich restarted the second half as they left the first, with Olliver putting a superb cross into the box, only for Fuller to put his diving header the wrong side of the post, and again it was the visitors who were looking to attack at all times.

Middlewich still couldn't increase their lead due to some fine goalkeeping.

Steve Moss should have made it 2-0, but blasted his penalty kick high over the bar after Langley had been hacked down yet again.

Dave Twite replaced Miranda and Fuller who had worked tirelessly all afternoon for the cause without reward. Woan and Ingham, both substitutes should have got their names on the scoresheet with Alan Woan hitting the crossbar and Ingham having a drive from the edge of the box well stopped again by the keeper.
