MAN APPEARS AT MAGISTRATES COURT

A 53-YEAR-OLD man was due to appear in court yesterday, Wednesday, charged with robbery, attempted robbery and associated firearms offences.

Police say the charges are linked with Operation Tornado, which is investigating 34 robberies and attempted robberies at building societies including the Nationwide in Congleton and Britannia in Alsager.

The man charged was due to appear before magistrates at Tamworth.
